It goes without saying that many casino games use a deck of cards for their gameplay. But, did you know that you can play variations on even the ones that don’t? Let’s take a look at playing card roulette and bingo.

Roulette

Traditionally, there are two distinct variations of the table game of roulette – European roulette and American roulette – which have slightly different formats and setups. Due to the rise in iGaming and the development of technologies, there are also a number of online roulette versions available on many online casino platforms. For example, roulette can be played through a live stream feed from iconic casinos like the MGM Grand or the Bellagio thanks to the developers at Playtech. In addition, live roulette games can be found in diverse themes due to the ability to be able to embed immersive graphics and effects, making for games like Live Quantum Roulette, Sticky Bandits Roulette Live, Age of the Gods Bonus Roulette Live, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Live Roulette.

However, perhaps one of the most surprising variations of roulette is one that uses playing cards. In fact, in California, all roulette games involve a pack of playing cards – instead of spinning a wheel to find out the winning number, cards are drawn from a pack at random to determine the winning color and number of each round. With this in mind, players can play roulette with the same gameplay they are used to without having to invest in a physical roulette wheel.

Another option is to play roulette using only the playing cards. Just like above, players will bet on which card they think will come up next in the pack. However, instead of only looking at the colors and numbers, they are also looking to match the suit. This gives the option for additional betting during the game, as players can place their bet on an entire suit in the same way they would bet on a color in the traditional game.

Bingo

Over the years, there have been many different types of bingo – from lotto to keno, tombola, house, and screen. Most commonly, however, bingo is typically played using either American or British rules. In Britain, bingo is played with 90 balls, and uses a playing card that has 27 spaces filled with numbers. Players can win by marking off every number in a line, two lines, or the entire card, otherwise known as a full house, depending on the rules in session.

In American bingo, there are only 75 balls in play. The bingo cards are also different, with 24 numbers across five columns, and each column headed by the letters of bingo. Players can win by marking off numbers in 300 different patterns, such as a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, or even shapes like X, L, or Z.

Whilst the rules of traditional bingo might seem a little complex, playing card bingo is extremely simple to understand for all abilities. The number of cards everyone gets depends on the number of players, but you want to use up as close to an entire deck as possible – for example, eight players will get six each with three left over. The hands are shown face up, and another deck of cards is turned over one at a time. If a card matches one in a player’s hand, they turn the card over. The first person to turn over all their cards is the winner of the game.

As you can see, there are a few traditional casino games that can be played using cards, even if they are known for their props such as roulette wheels and bingo cages. These card variations are perfect for enthusiasts of both casino games and card games alike.
